Project History

In 2003, an opportunity surfaced through a growing restaurant concept in Louisiana called Raising Cane’s. After visiting a location near LSU, it became clear that the concept was different — simple menu, strong operations, high energy, and a customer base that spanned all demographics. Just as importantly, it revealed a clear gap in the Western United States where the concept did not yet exist, creating a development opportunity in an emerging market.

Within five years, three locations were opened, and the brand continued to gain momentum — even through the 2008 financial downturn, where Raising Cane’s became a reliable, affordable option for customers. A major turning point came with the opening of the Ann Road and I-95 location in Las Vegas. On the day the store opened, a line of 42 cars wrapped around the building, confirming that the strategy, market selection, and operational execution were working.

As the company expanded, the focus remained consistent: build strong leadership teams, clearly define roles, establish non-negotiable operational standards, and stay disciplined in decision-making. The organization operated on a set of core principles — stay guest-focused, remain operationally driven, stay fiscally responsible, and remain community strong — and those principles guided expansion into Arizona and throughout the Western United States. Real estate strategy played a major role in this growth, focusing on building strong positions in major markets and their surrounding secondary cities.

By 2014, a development plan was presented to expand Raising Cane’s across the Western United States from New Mexico and Arizona up into Canada. When the company was sold back to Raising Cane’s in 2019, the organization had grown to 36 operating restaurants with six more in development — all built through disciplined strategy, real estate development, operational execution, and leadership alignment.
